The holidays are a whirlwind of joy, connection, and celebration—but let’s be honest, they can also be overwhelming. Between gatherings, gift-giving, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy to forget about the most important thing: you.

This season, let’s remember to pause. Let’s take time to nurture ourselves from the inside out, so we don’t just survive the festive rush, but glow through it. Inspired by Ayurveda—the ancient Indian system of natural healing—I’ve discovered some beautiful rituals that nourish your skin, uplift your spirit, and help you reconnect with yourself.

Let’s explore a few simple DIY beauty routines to give you that well-deserved moment of peace and radiance. ✨

Rejuvenate with DIY Ayurvedic Face Masks

Face masks are like mini spa sessions for your skin. These Ayurvedic masks are easy to make, using simple ingredients to bring out your natural glow. Whether your skin needs hydration or just a boost, there’s something here for you.

  1. Moisturizing Mask for Dry Skin 🥥
    • Ingredients: 2 tablespoons mashed ripe banana + 1 tablespoon coconut oil + 1 teaspoon honey
    • Why It Works: Banana is rich in potassium and vitamins to nourish dry skin, while coconut oil and honey provide deep moisture.
  2. Brightening Mask for Normal Skin 🌿
    • Ingredients: 2 tablespoons chickpea flour (besan) + 1 tablespoon plain yogurt + 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • Why It Works: Chickpea flour gently exfoliates, yogurt hydrates, and turmeric brightens and evens out skin tone.

Protip:

  1. Patch test all new skincare, DIY or store-bought, on your arm or neck before facial application.
  2. Start with a clean face—gently cleanse to remove dirt and oil before applying any skincare product.
  3. Always follow up with your favourite face oil or moisturizer to lock in the benefits.
  4. Apply face packs evenly, using a brush or fingertips, avoiding eyes and lips unless specifically formulated for those areas.

Deeply Nourish Your Skin with DIY Ayurvedic Face Oils

Winter’s chill or summer’s heat can leave skin feeling dry and tired. Face oils are a gentle, natural way to bring back moisture and glow. They feel luxurious, but they’re also quick and easy to make. Here are two blends that I love:

  1. Balancing Rosehip & Jojoba Face Oil 🌹
    • Ingredients: 1 tbsp rosehip seed oil + 1 tbsp jojoba oil
    • Why It Works: Rosehip is packed with vitamins A and C to promote skin regeneration, while jojoba mimics your skin’s natural oils to keep things balanced.
    • How-To: Mix the oils in a small bottle, apply a few drops to clean skin, and gently massage in upward motions. I like to use it morning and night for that dewy softness.
  2. Calming Lavender & Coconut Face Oil 🌙
    • Ingredients: 1 tbsp coconut oil + 5 drops lavender essential oil
    • Why It Works: Coconut oil deeply hydrates, and lavender soothes both skin and mind—perfect for winding down at night.
    • How-To: Warm the coconut oil until it liquefies (or you could use MCT Oil), mix in lavender, and apply before bed. It feels like a comforting hug for your skin.

Pro Tip: Always do a quick patch test if you have sensitive skin.

Indulge in Abhyanga Facial Massage with a Kansa Wand

Sometimes, self-care is about slowing down and tuning in. Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic self-massage that promotes relaxation, relieves stress, and enhances circulation. Adding a Kansa wand (an ayurvedic beauty tool, like the Gua- Sha) can take this experience to the next level.

Why I Love the Kansa Wand:

  • It helps reduce puffiness and dark circles (a lifesaver after late nights).
  • It promotes healthy skin tone and texture.
  • The rhythmic, gentle motion is incredibly calming—almost meditative.

How to Try It:

  1. Warm a few drops of your favorite face oil in your hands.
  2. Using gentle, upward strokes, glide the Kansa wand across your skin.
  3. Pay attention to pressure points: temples, forehead, cheeks. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and allow the cool metal to work its magic.
  4. Take 5-10 minutes just for you.

Trust me, this ritual feels like pressing pause on the chaos, if only for a moment.

Refresh and Lift with Face Yoga

Face yoga might sound funny, but it works wonders! Just like exercising your body, these simple movements tone facial muscles, improve circulation, and leave you looking refreshed. Plus, it only takes a few minutes and no equipment.

My Favourite Quick Exercises:

  1. Fish Face: Suck in your cheeks (like you’re making a fish face). Hold for 5 seconds and release. Repeat 10 times.
  2. Lion’s Roar: Open your mouth wide, stick out your tongue, and let out a big “roar!” Hold for 5 seconds, release, and repeat 10 times.
  3. Smiling Lift: Smile as wide as you can, lifting your cheeks. Feel those muscles stretch! Hold for 5 seconds and repeat 10 times.

It might feel silly, but it works—and hey, a little laughter is good for the soul.

This festive season, let’s remember that self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. These Ayurvedic rituals are more than beauty routines—they’re acts of love and grounding. When you nurture yourself, you’re better able to bring joy, warmth, and radiance to everyone around you.

So, take a breath. Make space for these little moments of peace. And as you care for your skin, remember you’re also caring for you.

Why: Because you to deserve to shine!
